Fans and 2011 Vuelta winner Spain's Juan Jose Cobo will be pleased that the 2012 edition has 13 medium and high mountain stages and 10 uphill and summit finishes. Cobo announced at the 2012 route presenation at the beginning of January that he plans to defend his title after competing at the Tour de France.
